Tiger Woods has successful back surgery, reports ‘everything went well’
Tiger Woods has successfully completed yet another back surgery, as the 15-time major champion shared on his social media on Friday. This marks his sixth back surgery that has been made public.
“The surgery went smoothly,” Woods mentioned in his statement on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I am hopeful that this procedure will lessen the back spasms and pain I have been feeling during most of the 2024 season. I’m eager to begin my rehabilitation and return to my normal activities, including golfing.”
The microdecompression surgery targeting nerve compression in Woods’ lower back was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi at the Hospital for Special Surgery located in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Woods has faced multiple injuries over the years. This surgery is his first back operation since just before a serious car accident in February 2021 that caused severe injuries to his legs. Following that incident, he underwent several additional surgeries, and his 2023 season was impacted by yet another surgery for his right ankle.
This season has been difficult for Woods, as he missed the cut at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and British Open, withdrew from the Genesis Invitational due to illness, and finished 60th at the Masters.
