Today’s NFL Matches: Schedule, Timing, and Viewing Options for Thursday

As Week 2 fades into the background, two more teams from the AFC East get ready to kick off a busy Week 3.

After last week’s “Thursday Night Football” where the Buffalo Bills faced the Miami Dolphins, this week the New England Patriots and New York Jets take the field on the same Amazon Prime Video platform. Both teams are looking to close in on the Bills at the top of the AFC East.

The Patriots stand at 1-1 following an unexpected victory against the Bengals in Cincinnati during Week 1, but then they faltered with a home loss to the Seahawks in overtime on Sunday.

Conversely, the Jets are also 1-1 after achieving their first win this season: a 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. This win marked quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ first victory with the Jets after he missed nearly the entire 2023 season and the team lost their opener against the 49ers.

Here’s how to catch the opening NFL game of Week 3:

Preview: Jets vs. Patriots

The Jets and Patriots are gearing up for their first “Thursday Night Football” encounter this season, with two more divisional matchups planned between these teams who finished at the bottom of the AFC East in 2023.

Since they first played in 1960, these teams have faced each other 130 times, including both regular and postseason games. While the Jets started strong in this rivalry – winning nine games in a row between 1966 and 1970 – it’s been the Patriots who have dominated since Tom Brady joined in 2001.

Last year, the Jets ended the Patriots’ 15-game winning streak that dated back to 2016. Before New York’s 17-3 triumph in Week 18, they hadn’t beaten New England in regulation since the 2010 playoffs. Their last regular-season victory in New England was back in 2006.

With both teams sitting at 1-1, they are tied for second place in the AFC East as Thursday’s match approaches.

Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh aims for his second career victory over the Patriots, while first-year head coach Jerod Mayo for the Patriots looks to continue the legacy left by Bill Belichick.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be leading the Jets in his fourth game and will be facing the Patriots for the first time since leaving Green Bay. On the other hand, Jacoby Brissett will be making his third start in a familiar role with New England, where he started his professional journey in 2016, while the team is giving rookie quarterback Drake Maye time to grow.

So far this season, New England has showcased one of the strongest scoring defenses in the NFL, currently rated fifth with just 33 total points allowed across their games against the Bengals and Seahawks up to Week 2.

In contrast, the Jets have struggled defensively, allowing 49 points in their two games against the 49ers and Titans, ranking them the seventh-worst in the league.
