Tony Buzbee Takes Legal Action Against Roc Nation and Jay-Z’s Legal Team

A legal battle intensifies as Tony Buzbee sues Roc Nation and lawyers for Jay-Z

The ongoing legal dispute involving rapper Jay-Z and attorney Tony Buzbee took a new turn on Wednesday with the filing of an additional lawsuit.

Buzbee’s law firm initiated the lawsuit against Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment company, along with lawyer Marcy Croft and the law firm Quinn Emanuel. They are accused of breaking several Texas laws by allegedly offering money to a former client in exchange for launching a lawsuit against Buzbee’s firm.

This lawsuit, filed in Harris County, Texas, adds to the escalating conflict between Buzbee, who represents numerous accusers in multiple sexual assault cases against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Jay-Z, who faces allegations in one of these cases involving the assault of a minor alongside Combs.

Marcy Croft serves with Team Roc, which is the philanthropic division of Roc Nation. The law firm Quinn Emanuel is defending Jay-Z in both Buzbee’s original case involving Combs and in a countersuit brought by Jay-Z in Los Angeles.

“Tony Buzbee has fabricated outrageous claims against me and my firm—renowned for fighting corruption—as a desperate attempt to divert attention from his growing legal troubles. We are eager to refute these untrue claims and see them dismissed,” stated Marcy Croft in a message to YSL News on Wednesday.

Roc Nation shared a similar view, commenting in their statement to YSL News: “Tony Buzbee’s baseless lawsuit against Roc Nation is merely another sham. It’s a feeble effort to distract and shift focus. This distraction will not affect the final outcome, and true justice will prevail shortly.”

Buzbee revealed the latest lawsuit, initiated on behalf of a former client of his firm, through a post on Instagram. The documents claim that representatives for the lawyers impersonated state employees, “flashed fake badges,” and offered the client up to $10,000 to sue the Buzbee Law Firm. The lawsuit asserts that Roc Nation funded this alleged “conspiracy.”

Buzbee, known for handling high-profile cases, presented what he claims is a transcript of a conversation where the defendants made the payment offer to his former client as evidence.

“These illegal actions have occurred over two dozen times and have led to two completely frivolous lawsuits against the firm,” Buzbee stated in the Instagram post and in a statement to YSL News.

Previously, Buzbee faced a lawsuit in November from an unidentified “high-profile” celebrity who accused him of “shamelessly trying to extort large sums of money.” Jay-Z has since been revealed as that celebrity.

“This conduct was specifically aimed at our firm to deter us from pursuing cases linked to the Diddy litigation. I want to be clear: we will not be intimidated or bullied,” he emphasized. “The Defendants crossed the line, acted carelessly, and foolishly got caught in their illegal activities on video.”

YSL News has reached out to Quinn Emanuel for a response.

Jay-Z targets Tony Buzbee

Amidst the expanding legal mess involving Combs, Jay-Z strongly refuted the accusations against him and specifically criticized Buzbee. “I have no idea how you’ve become such a despicable person, Mr. Buzbee,” stated the “Empire State of Mind” rapper in a previous statement, adding, “but I assure you, I’ve encountered your type many times before.”

Lawyers representing Jay-Z took proactive measures, sending a letter to the judge in the New York case last week, accusing Buzbee and his team of coercing clients into including Combs in their allegations.

“We do not pressure individuals nor do we require it. What we have done is turn away potential cases from those we find not credible,” Buzbee stated in response to YSL News at that time.

In a civil lawsuit, Jay-Z is accused of taking turns with Combs in sexually assaulting a minor who claims she was 13 years old at the time of the alleged incident, which purportedly occurred during an MTV Video Music Awards after-party in September 2000.

The accuser has since come forward, acknowledging some inconsistencies in her account but maintaining that the allegations remain.

Her father came to pick her up from the party where she claims she was assaulted; however, he disputes this allegation. She also mentioned that she spoke with a celebrity during the event, but that celebrity clarified that she wasn’t in New York when the party occurred.

“You should never allow someone else’s actions to ruin your life. I hope to inspire others to share their stories just as I have,” the woman, now 38, told NBC News.

This weekend’s “investigative report reveals that this so-called ‘attorney’ Buzbee submitted a false complaint against me in a quest for money and notoriety. This incident never occurred, yet he pursued it in court and doubled down with the media. Justice is on its way,” Jay-Z stated through his representatives on Saturday, emphasizing that “this was over before it even started” and that “this 1-800 lawyer hasn’t realized it yet.”

When the extensive case against Combs began, Buzbee organized a press conference where he provided a 1-800 number for potential victims to reach out to him.

Combs faces allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, along with multiple civil lawsuits from various alleged victims, highlighting a disturbing pattern of abuse spanning decades.
