Trace Cyrus is reaffirming his worries about his father, Billy Ray Cyrus, despite reportedly facing a legal threat.

The 35-year-old son of the “Achy Breaky Heart” artist wrote Saturday in an Instagram Story that he has not heard from his father since he shared a public post expressing concern for the country music icon. This message came after Billy Ray’s poorly received performance at President Donald Trump’s inaugural ball.

Trace Cyrus stated that his father “did contact a family member to let me know he’s pursuing legal action against me for urging him to seek help.”

“Dad, I’m only half an hour away from you,” he mentioned. “You could have just come over & talked to me directly.”

In a more detailed message shared on Instagram, the musician indicated that while his father has threatened legal action, it has not yet occurred.

“It’s shameful for you to threaten me with legal action simply for caring enough to want you to get help,” he expressed. “Pappy is surely looking down at you with immense disappointment. You should feel ashamed. I will always love you, but I can no longer respect you as a man.”

Trace Cyrus previously posted a message on Instagram directed to his father on Wednesday, mentioning that they have not spoken “in a while.” He remarked that “myself and the girls have genuinely been worried about you for years, but you’ve pushed all of us away.”

Billy Ray Cyrus is the father of six children, five of whom he shares with ex-wife Tish Cyrus: Brandi Cyrus, 37; Trace Cyrus, 35; Miley Cyrus, 32; Braison Cyrus, 30; and Noah Cyrus, 25. He also has a son, Christopher Cody Cyrus, with Kristin Luckey.

Miley Cyrus has yet to respond to her brother’s comments.

Trace Cyrus’s initial statement came days after the troubled performance his father gave at an event following Trump’s inauguration. The performance was riddled with technical difficulties, and he delivered the song lyrics in a shaky manner, leading to widespread criticism.

Later, the singer told People magazine he “wouldn’t have missed the honor of performing at this event, regardless of the sound issues.”

In his Wednesday message, Trace Cyrus claimed that his father is “not well.” He expressed uncertainty about what his dad is “struggling with,” but offered, “I would love to help you if you would just open up and accept the help.”

In his recent Instagram updates, Trace stated that he “meant every word I said” in his previous comments, describing them as “the truth.” Beneath a photo from Father’s Day 2022, he referred to that day as “the last good day I had with my dad.”

Readdressing his father, Trace noted that his initial message “was filled with love,” adding, “I could have been much more candid about various issues, but I don’t want to expose your private matters.”

Meanwhile, Trace Cyrus’s younger brother, Braison Cyrus, announced on Friday that he will be producing their father’s upcoming album, set to launch this summer.

“I’ve spent the past year getting closer to my dad than ever before,” he commented. “I’ve heard stories, jokes, and songs that I believe no one else has heard. This is a chance to share my dad’s story through music, and I feel fortunate to be involved. Music, stories, and family mean everything to my dad, so bringing these elements together feels like a complete journey.”

While not directly addressing Trace Cyrus’s concerns, Braison stated in an Instagram Story that their father is “happy, healthy, and ready to create this record.”

In an additional remark to People magazine, Braison Cyrus affirmed, “I hold no ill feelings towards anyone in my family.”
