Trader Joe’s Issues Recall for Over 650,000 Scented Candles Over Fire Safety Concerns

Trader Joe’s issues recall for over 650,000 scented candles due to fire risk

On Thursday, Trader Joe’s announced the recall of approximately 653,000 scented candles because the flame can transfer from the wick to the wax, potentially causing an unexpectedly large flame and representing a fire risk.

The recall affects Mango Tangerine Scented Candles labeled with SKU number 56879 on the bottom. These candles are made of white wax, feature a cotton wick, come in a tin container, and have a weight of around 5.7 ounces, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The CPSC advises consumers to stop using these candles immediately. They were sold starting in June 2024, and customers can return them to any Trader Joe’s location for a full cash refund of $4. Alternatively, consumers can fill out an online product feedback form to receive a $4 Trader Joe’s gift card via mail.

Customers will hear back from Trader Joe’s Customer Relations, who may ask for a receipt or a photo of the candle in question, according to the CPSC.

If you have any questions, you can reach out to Trader Joe’s Customer Relations at 626-599-3817.

Reports of minor burns received

Reports indicate Trader Joe’s has been made aware of 14 incidents involving high flames from these recalled candles. This includes three instances of minor property damage and two cases of minor burns, as noted by the CPSC.
