Tragedy Strikes Amarillo: One Fatality and Multiple Injuries in Nightclub Shooting

Shooting at Amarillo Nightclub Leaves One Dead, Eight Injured

Authorities report that a shooting incident at a nightclub in Amarillo, Texas has resulted in one fatality and eight injuries.

The Amarillo Emergency Communications Center began receiving numerous reports of gunfire at a nightclub on S. Polk Street around 2:05 a.m. local time on Sunday, as detailed in a statement from the Amarillo Police Department.

Upon police arrival, they discovered nine individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Six of these victims were transported to a hospital, while others made their way there in private vehicles, as per police reports.

Among those hospitalized, one victim identified as 25-year-old John Love Louima sustained multiple gunshot wounds and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, according to police officials.

The conditions of the remaining victims are currently described as being in “various stages of medical treatment,” though police did not disclose specific details regarding their status.

Three individuals were arrested in connection with the shooting. Two of the suspects have been charged with several offenses, including murder, after a civilian followed them and guided the police to their whereabouts, as indicated by the police.

Three Suspects Arrested Following Shooting

Police reported that a car pulled up to the entrance of the nightclub while it was open early Sunday, and a person exited the vehicle before opening fire into a “large crowd.” After firing several rounds, the shooter returned to the car and drove away from the scene.

A witness pursued the vehicle as it fled, which ultimately led to the arrest of three suspects: 23-year-old Robert Kenney Knox, 21-year-old Nahryah Hilesta Ines Hayes, and a third individual who was seated in the back of the car.

Knox and Hayes have been charged with murder in addition to eight counts of “deadly conduct/discharge of a firearm,” according to the police report. The third individual was arrested on charges of public intoxication.

Authorities believe that the shooting was prompted by a dispute that took place inside the bar. It is thought that the suspects left the bar after the altercation, only to return and initiate the shooting.
