Two Delta Workers Fatalities and One Injury from Tire Explosion at Atlanta Airport

On Tuesday, the airline confirmed that two workers from Delta Air Lines were killed and a third was badly injured at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.

The tragic incident occurred at Delta’s TechOps maintenance facility, as stated by Delta representative Samantha Facteau to YSL News.

Atlanta Police Major Kelley Collier informed YSL News that response teams arrived at the location around 5 a.m.

Officials reported that while a plane tire was being changed, it exploded, resulting in the deaths of two employees and sending a third to the hospital with serious injuries.

The specific details regarding the third Delta employee’s injuries are not yet known.

In a statement, Delta expressed its sorrow: “The Delta family is heartbroken over the loss of two team members and the injury of another due to this morning’s event at our Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3). We are providing full support to their families and colleagues during this very trying period.”

Delta also acknowledged the swift response from first responders and medical personnel on the scene, stating, “We are currently collaborating with local authorities and undertaking a comprehensive investigation to understand what occurred.”

‘A Devastating Incident for Everyone’

Delta TechOps Chief of Operations and President John Laughter conveyed in a memo to staff, which was acquired by YSL News, that the incident occurred within the company’s wheel and brake shop.

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news that two of our team members have lost their lives and one has sustained serious injuries,” Laughter wrote. “Our thoughts are with their families during this tough time, and we are committed to finding out what led to this event. This situation is heartbreaking for all of us.”

“Please remember that your safety is our top priority, and your leaders are here to support you,” the president added. “Take care of yourselves and each other during this time.”

The identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
