15-Year-Old North Dakota Runaway Shot and Killed in Las Vegas During FaceTime Incident
James Lobue, a 15-year-old boy who had run away from North Dakota, was fatally shot in a Las Vegas apartment while the suspected shooter was showcasing a semiautomatic pistol during a FaceTime call.
In Las Vegas, a 15-year-old boy who had escaped from North Dakota was shot dead in an apartment, and authorities claim the accused shooter was displaying his weapon to a girl on FaceTime.
On September 4, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police charged 18-year-old Browdy Lee Shaffer with the murder of James Lobue, who had fled from Bismarck, North Dakota, according to an arrest report accessed by YSL News.
Officers discovered James on September 2 suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso inside the apartment. He was immediately transported to a hospital for surgery, but ultimately did not survive, as stated in the report.
At the time of the incident, there were two adults and three minors inside the apartment. Body camera footage reportedly captured numerous juveniles fleeing the scene as officers arrived, according to the report.
It remains unknown if Shaffer has engaged a defense attorney.
Browdy Lee Shaffer Arrived at the Apartment with a Semiautomatic Pistol
A young female at the residence informed police that James and another boy had spent the night in the living room before the shooting occurred. Annoyed by their presence, the girl’s stepfather splashed water on them to wake them up, which prompted the boys to leave, as noted in the report.
The boys later returned and spent the night in the apartment again. Shaffer, carrying a semiautomatic pistol, came to the apartment the following day to confront the girl’s stepfather regarding the earlier incident.
While at the apartment, Shaffer reportedly engaged in “play-fighting” with his brother and James in one of the bedrooms. He then initiated a FaceTime call to an unidentified girl and began showcasing his gun by turning on the flashlight and laser attached to it, according to the report.
Loud ‘Pop’ Heard As Everyone Fled the Apartment
During the incident, while Shaffer was standing next to James with the gun, a loud “pop” suddenly rang out. Following this noise, everyone quickly exited the room, including James, who collapsed at the apartment’s front door, as reported by the police.
As the crowd dispersed from the apartment, Shaffer reportedly attempted to assist the injured teen. However, he returned to the bedroom for an unknown reason before fleeing the premises, according to the document.
Law enforcement discovered that Shaffer had visited the apartment with the intent to confront the girl’s stepfather “outside,” as indicated in the report. Instead of fighting, James tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds affecting his torso and arm, as confirmed by the Clark County Coroner.
Shaffer was taken into custody on September 4 and is currently held at the Clark County Detention Center.
