Miami father and son pass away after jet ski collides with seawall in Keys
This week, a Miami father and his young son tragically died when their Waverunner crashed into a concrete seawall in the Florida Keys, according to local authorities.
The father, aged 47, was operating the jet ski with his 9-year-old son onboard when the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, as stated by The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
The accident transpired at 6:55 PM in a canal located in Marathon, a city in the Middle Keys, close to the Castaways Waterfront Restaurant and Sushi Bar.
Marathon is situated approximately 45 miles northeast of Key West.
A report from FWC, which was acquired by YSL News on Thursday, confirmed the victims’ identities as Jose Dominguez and his son, Daniel Dominguez.
The report indicated they were on a 2018 Yamaha personal watercraft when the craft collided with the seawall at “a high rate of speed,” resulting in fatal injuries for both the father and son.
Deputies from the sheriff’s office arrived first on the scene, followed by officers from FWC and paramedics with Monroe County Fire Rescue, who pronounced the father dead at the scene.
A picture sent to YSL News by the sheriff’s office displays the significantly damaged blue, white, and gray watercraft next to the seawall, including a single gray and green Croc shoe standing upright on its right floorboard.
The force of the impact was so severe that “the man was thrown about 20 feet onto dry land,” Sheriff Rick Ramsay told The Miami Herald.
The child was ejected into the water, and witnesses reportedly jumped in immediately to try to rescue him.

“Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victims during this challenging time,” Callender noted.
