Tragic Loss of Frank Fritz, the Beloved Star of ‘American Pickers,’ Following Two-Year Health Battle

Frank Fritz, the beloved character from ‘American Pickers,’ passes away at 60 after a stroke

Frank Fritz, known for his role on “American Pickers,” has died at the age of 60.

On Tuesday, representatives from the History Channel and Cineflix Productions released a joint statement to YSL News, confirming the death of Fritz, who had been a part of “American Pickers” for more than ten years. He passed away on Monday.

“We are heartbroken to announce that our dear friend and a cherished member of The History Channel and American Pickers family, Frank Fritz, has left us,” the statement expressed. “We will always cherish the memories of ‘the bearded charmer’ and his tireless pursuit of vintage motorcycles and bicycles. Our condolences go out to Frank’s family during this challenging time. He will be profoundly missed.”

Bill Stankey, Fritz’s representative, described him as “an extraordinary person” in his statement to YSL News on Tuesday.

“He had a passion for life, cared deeply for others, always offered kind words, and possessed an unmatched knowledge of Americana and antiques,” Stankey remarked, noting that Fritz was “the cornerstone of American Pickers” and “will be missed by his friends, family, and fans.”

Fritz’s passing follows a two-year battle since he was hospitalized due to a stroke, a fact confirmed by his former co-star Mike Wolfe on Instagram at that time. Wolfe stated, “Frank has suffered a stroke and is currently in the hospital,” asking fans to “keep him in your hearts and thoughts,” and expressed his hope that “more than anything, you make it through this okay. I love you, buddy.”

“American Pickers” showcases antique enthusiasts traveling across the nation, scouring junkyards and attics in search of valuable collectibles to resell. The series debuted on the History Channel in 2010, featuring Fritz and Wolfe as co-hosts. Fritz’s appearances on the show ended during Season 21, and Rob Wolfe, Mike Wolfe’s brother, took his place.

Mike Wolfe honors his memories of ‘American Pickers’ with Frank Fritz

On Tuesday, Wolfe shared his grief on Instagram, expressing heartbreak at the loss of his long-time co-star.

“I have known Frank for over half of my life, and what you have witnessed on TV was always just as I experienced—he was a dreamer, sensitive yet humorous,” he wrote. “Frank was authentic, both on and off camera, and had the ability to touch many hearts by simply being himself.”

Wolfe reminisced about their adventures together, stating, “Who would have imagined we’d spend time sharing the front seat of a white cargo van in front of millions, embarking on our journeys together? Before the show launched, we often set out on trips without a specific destination, driven solely by our mutual passion for uncovering something fascinating and historical.”

He added that they had “shared countless journeys and miles together, feeling fortunate to have been there with him during his final journey home. I love you, buddy, and I will miss you dearly, but I know you are in a better place.”

In July 2021, Wolfe announced Fritz’s departure from the show, sharing his sadness at the news. However, during a July 2021 interview with The Sun, Fritz alleged he hadn’t spoken to Wolfe in “two years” and claimed he “didn’t leave the show.”

“I wrapped up filming, then underwent some back surgery, followed by the pandemic,” Fritz explained in his interview, stating that Wolfe knew about his back issues but didn’t reach out to check on him.

In response to the rumors regarding their relationship, Wolfe said, “I have chosen to maintain privacy concerning Frank’s situation and our friendship this past year. Now is not the right time for clarifications; instead, let’s focus on supporting my friend with our prayers.”
