Rapper Rich Homie Quan, famous for ‘Type of Way,’ passes away at 34

Rich Homie Quan, the rapper celebrated for his 2013 hit “Type of Way,” has passed away at the age of 34, as reported by various sources.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Quan died on Thursday at a hospital in Atlanta, according to reports from Rolling Stone and The Associated Press. The details surrounding his death have not been revealed.

His family expressed to TMZ their profound sadness, stating they were “shattered and heartbroken” by his passing.

YSL News has reached out for comments from Quan’s representatives.

In the wake of his death, many fellow artists, including rapper Boosie Badazz, took to social media to express their sorrow. Badazz suggested that Quan may have died from a drug overdose. YSL News has also contacted Badazz’s team for clarification.

“Just got word @RichHomieQuan just OD‼️” Badazz shared in a post on X. “Just talked to (Q)uan the other day.”

R&B artist Jacquees, who worked with Quan on the 2014 track “Feel It,” paid tribute in an emotional post on X, writing, “Rest in peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for life.”

Quan pursued a career in music following a 15-month prison term for burglary, making his debut in 2012 with mixtapes “I Go in on Every Song” and “Still Goin In.”

His breakout single “Type of Way” in 2013 brought him into the limelight, selling over half a million copies, while a remix featured artists such as Meek Mill and Jeezy.

In 2015, his mixtape “If You Ever Think I Will Stop Goin’ in Ask RR (Royal Rich)” included the hit “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” achieving triple platinum status.

In March 2018, Quan released his first full album, “Rich as in Spirit,” under Motown Records.

“I never envisioned going this far with music,” Quan shared with XXL magazine in 2014. “Music started as just a hobby for me. I never imagined I’d be on stage performing. Once I got out of jail, I decided to take it more seriously, and my dreams came true.”

Rich Homie Quan discussed during Young Thug’s trial

Quan was part of Rich Gang, a hip-hop group from Cash Money Records, which includes members like Birdman, Jacquees, and Young Thug.

Recently, in Atlanta, during Young Thug’s trial involving racketeering, drug, and weapon charges, there were inquiries regarding a supposed rivalry with Quan.

During the trial, Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland, a former associate of Young Thug and a crucial witness for the prosecution, was questioned about whether Young Thug had issues with Quan “bringing If Gang members to his residence.”

Instead of providing a direct answer, Copeland repeated the query and posed it to Young Thug, who was quickly interrupted by a court official.
