Transit Employee Stunned to Win $1 Million Powerball Jackpot: “Are Our Tickets Legit?”

Transit worker ‘in disbelief’ after winning $1 million Powerball jackpot: ‘Did we actually buy valid tickets?’

Stacey Fiore had to call her husband to confirm the winning numbers: “Did we actually buy valid tickets?”

A woman from New Jersey was left “in disbelief” upon discovering that she had won a $1 million Powerball prize, so she called her husband to confirm the winning numbers.

Stacey Fiore bought her tickets from a Quick Stop convenience store earlier this month and selected her numbers through a quick pick option, as per a news statement from the New Jersey Lottery.

Fiore found out about her win by checking the numbers on the lottery app, but she initially thought it could not be real.

“It displayed ‘Congratulations. You won a million dollars,’” she recounted to lottery officials. “I checked it again, and it still said I won.”

‘You better not be joking with me’

According to the news release, Fiore playfully mentioned that she usually doesn’t trust her husband, Greg, to check the numbers, but still called him for confirmation. And he confirmed her win. Her numbers were 11, 24, 50, 56, and 66, with only her Powerball number not matching the ticket.

“I told him he better not be joking with me,” Stacey said. “And did we actually buy valid tickets?”

She added, “I was simply in disbelief. You anticipate something like this your entire life, and you are still in disbelief,” she said.

She joked about quitting her job but continues to work as a supervisor for the New York City MTA in Staten Island, roughly an hour away from their home in Barnegat Township.

Although she and her husband don’t have specific plans for the winnings, an extravagant vacation is certainly a possibility.

“Our kids are thrilled for us. But they also know that Christmas is approaching,” Greg informed lottery officials.
