Mastering the Art of DNA Droplet Division: Paving the Way for Synthetic Cells

A time-delay circuit enables precise control over the division of synthetic DNA droplets, which mimic biological Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation (LLPS) droplets found in cells. By utilizing a combination of microRNAs (miRNAs) and the enzyme RNase H, researchers have successfully regulated the timing of droplet division. This breakthrough paves the way for creating artificial cells with

Travis Kelce Takes Center Stage in ‘Grotesquerie’ – His Latest Foray Into Acting

Travis Kelce to star in ‘Grotesquerie.’ It’s not his first time onscreen

With the football season now in full swing, Travis Kelce is making his return to television, alongside his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. This month, the Kansas City Chiefs player expands his acting career with Ryan Murphy’s FX drama “Grotesquerie,” airing Wednesdays at 10 PM EDT/PDT.

This 10-episode limited series follows Detective Lois Tryon (played by Niecy Nash-Betts) as she tries to unravel the mystery behind a series of crimes that haunt her. Struggling to find clues, she teams up with Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), a nun who also works as a reporter, to track down the criminal.

In May, Kelce shared on their “New Heights” podcast with his brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, that his time filming has been “an absolute blast.”

Though he felt like “a novice,” the 34-year-old was pleased he hadn’t been “let go yet,” adding, “So far, so good.” Unsure of how many episodes he would appear in, he remarked, “For now, I’m just taking it one scene at a time and focusing on remembering my lines.”

Kelce’s path to “Grotesquerie” includes some comedy and a touch of reality TV. Here’s a look at his previous entertainment ventures.

His dating show ‘Catching Kelce’ (2016)

While he’s currently dating “Miss Americana,” Kelce once dated 50 women from various states on his E! reality dating show “Catching Kelce,” which aired in the fall of 2016. He reportedly had a brief relationship with Kentucky’s winner, Maya Benberry.

On “The Pivot Podcast” in January 2023, Kelce described the filming experience as “very awkward” since he felt he didn’t have much to contribute. He contemplated turning down the offer multiple times but eventually couldn’t resist the financial benefit.

“I spent the first few checks like they were nothing,” he explained. “I was having a great time treating myself without thinking about future expenses. I even avoided paying rent at times. When I heard I could make six figures in two weeks and had 50 women to meet, I thought, ‘This could be fun.’ But I don’t think I was shown as my true self on the show.”

Although he claimed to have moved on from reality TV during the podcast, Kelce went on to participate in Amazon Prime Video’s documentary “Kelce,” which documented his and Jason’s matchup in the 2023 Super Bowl.

All episodes of “Catching Kelce” are streaming on Peacock.

‘Moonbase 8’ (2020)

Kelce made an appearance as a fictionalized version of himself in the debut episode of Showtime’s one-season comedy “Moonbase 8.” This show had a collaboration with the NFL, where Kelce joined three comedians (Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly) training for a mission to the moon.

To tackle the team’s water problem, Kelce suggests the bold idea of drilling a well. Spoiler: He only appears in the first episode because he gets swallowed by a hole due to his negligence—his fellow astronauts are safe.

This show is available for purchase on Amazon Prime.

‘Saturday Night Live’ (2023)

Kelce hosted an episode of NBC’s iconic show “Saturday Night Live” on March 4, 2023, shortly after bagging his second Super Bowl victory. He expressed the significance of the opportunity during his opening remarks, saying, “Watching ‘SNL’ with my mom while growing up meant a lot to me,” with his family in the audience.

“I admire (Will) Ferrell, the Sandman (Adam Sandler), Chris Farley. Being here right now is just incredible,” he admitted, visibly emotional. “Tonight, I’m giving it my all.”

During the episode, he played a character obsessed with American Girl Dolls and teamed up with Jason for a sketch about the unexpected feelings when running into an ex.

A writer from the show suggested that Kelce’s hosting gig played a role in his romance with Swift. Last February, Ben Marshall from Please Don’t Destroy mentioned on a podcast that Swift recognized Kelce from his “SNL” episode and remarked, ‘Oh, he seems like a fun and cool guy.’”

“Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” (October 16)

Travis Kelce servers as the host of Amazon Prime Video’s revamped version of “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” which was originally hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. The show, titled “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” has already filmed 20 episodes and will premiere on October 16.

Contestants compete for a grand prize of $100,000 by aiming to correctly answer 11 questions based on elementary school subjects. They can also ask for help from a team of celebrities. For the final question, and to win the cash prize, the contestant selects one celebrity for assistance with their last answer.

Among the guest celebrities are comedians Nikki Glaser, Natasha Leggero, Nicole Byer, and Ron Funches, along with Bravo stars Garcelle Beauvais from “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and Lala Kent from “Vanderpump Rules.”

‘Happy Gilmore’ Sequel (TBA)

During an appearance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in August, Adam Sandler announced that Kelce will have a role in the upcoming sequel to “Happy Gilmore.”

Sandler discussed further details about the sequel and Kelce’s participation while appearing on “New Heights.” He noted, “We were literally discussing you playing my son when we started writing it, around six months ago.” Sandler expressed enthusiasm, saying Kelce would be joining “a lot of amazing golfers, which will be hilarious.”

The delayed sequel will catch up with Happy (played by Sandler), a hockey player who previously switched to golf to save his grandmother’s house. Sandler stated, “When we meet Happy, he’s dealing with some personal issues. He’s in a bit of a chaotic situation, and we’re trying to get his life back on track.”
