Donald Trump comments on AI-generated Taylor Swift campaign images: ‘I have no idea about them’
Is there a Taylor Swift song to accompany Donald Trump’s latest political mishap? Alexa, cue up “Don’t Blame Me.”
In a Fox News interview released on Wednesday, the former president and current Republican presidential candidate discussed his recent social media posts featuring images of Swift that are believed to have been created by artificial intelligence to promote his campaign.
When Fox Business reporter Grady Trimble asked if he was concerned about Swift possibly suing him, Trump insisted he knew nothing about how the images were made, which were shared on Truth Social over the past weekend.
“I have no idea about them except that someone else created them. I didn’t do it,” Trump stated, failing to identify who made the images. “These were all produced by other individuals.”
Trump commented that AI can be “very dangerous in this manner,” referencing his own experiences with AI-generated impersonations.
“It’s happening to me as well,” he mentioned. “They’re making me speak – I sound perfectly fine, absolutely flawless – on AI, and I’m promoting other products and things.”
Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, issued a statement to Fox News Digital claiming, “Swifties for Trump is an enormous movement that expands daily,” adding, “Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is undeniably guilty for all the harm she has caused every American.”
YSL News has reached out for a comment from a representative of the Trump campaign.
Previously, AI-generated images of Trump have circulated online, including fake pictures of him being arrested, sharing a barbecue with Black supporters, and leading a crowd down an American-flag-lined street.
Donald Trump announces fake Taylor Swift endorsement on social media
This past Sunday, Trump posted various allegedly AI-generated pictures on Truth Social that suggested Taylor Swift and her fans support his campaign, despite Swift previously expressing her distaste for him.
One image depicted Swift as Uncle Sam, stating, “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump,” while another AI image, listed as satire, read, “Swifties turning to Trump after ISIS disrupted Taylor Swift concert.” This second image referenced a suspected terrorist threat that was intercepted at Swift’s concert in Vienna earlier this month, with Austrian authorities, along with U.S. officials, preventing the attack.
The images combined real and AI-created visuals, including those of Trump supporters known as Swifties for Trump, similar to the actual group named MAGA Swifties.
What are Taylor Swift’s political beliefs?
The “I Can Do it With a Broken Heart” performer has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the 2024 election. However, she shared her political perspectives in her 2020 Netflix documentary “Miss Americana.”
While supporting U.S. Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, a Democrat from Tennessee, during the 2018 midterms, Swift’s publicist warned her that Trump might retaliate against her comments. Swift famously replied, “I don’t care. If I receive negative press for saying, ‘Don’t elect a homophobic racist,’ I’ll take that risk.”
This led to Swift’s Instagram post on October 7, 2018, where she advised her followers not to support Sen. Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, who went on to win her Senate seat.
In her post, Swift stated: “I’ve been hesitant to share my political views publicly in the past, but due to various events in my life and in the world over the last two years, I feel quite differently now. I will always vote for the candidate who stands up for and defends the human rights that we all deserve in this country,” her message read.
Swift expressed that she “cannot hearken to Marsha Blackburn” due to her “terrifying and appalling” voting record in Congress.
After listing Blackburn’s positions on key issues like women’s safety and LGBTQ+ rights, Swift concluded with: “These are not MY Tennessee values.”
