Trump stumbles and slurs through his interview with Elon Musk. It was an absolute failure.
For a billionaire with a fascination for authoritarianism who enjoys associating with far-right extremists, Elon Musk has a knack for making right-wing politicians look foolish.
For a billionaire with an interest in authoritarianism who likes mingling with far-right figures, Elon Musk possesses a unique talent for exposing the absurdity of right-wing politicians.
Former President Donald Trump had loudly promoted a much-anticipated interview with Musk that was set to be broadcasted on X. However, similar to the disastrous launch of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign on the same platform, the Trump-Musk interview also failed to impress, leading to ridicule on social media over their incompetence.
Since Vice President Kamala Harris topped the Democratic presidential ticket last month, Trump’s reelection efforts have struggled. His childish jabs at her are falling flat, and his racially charged comments about her heritage have alienated nearly all but his staunchest supporters. Additionally, his choice for vice president, JD Vance, becomes increasingly unappealing with each public appearance.
In a strange turn, Trump decided to sit down with Musk to engage an audience that is heavily online and doesn’t reflect the wider electorate. Even if the discussion had gone smoothly, it would still have seemed peculiar and largely irrelevant to Trump’s efforts to counter Harris’ advancing stature.
Trump’s discussion with Elon Musk was a total failure
Unfortunately, the online talk was a complete mess from the onset. Users on X erupted in frustration or amusement as they waited for the show to begin, only to find themselves staring at delays. It took over 40 minutes for the interview to get underway for anyone to actually tune in. This amateurish blunder was the last thing a struggling campaign needed to portray competency.
Back in May 2023, when DeSantis’ presidential launch was marred by technical glitches during an interview with Musk on the platform then called Twitter, Trump ridiculed the situation, declaring on social media: “Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!”
On behalf of DeSantis, let me just say this: HAH!
Forget the technical issues, Trump’s interview got even worse when he started speaking
His segment was a rambling discourse on crowd sizes, immigration, President Joe Biden, and an assortment of other disjointed topics. Additionally, he struggled to articulate his thoughts clearly, raising concerns about his health and doing nothing to alleviate worries about his age and fitness for duty.
He came off as a disoriented, incoherent version of Daffy Duck.
Elon Musk lacks Barbara Walters’ interviewing finesse
Musk, for his part, demonstrated the interviewing prowess of someone who’s been overly relaxed. He did little more than cheer on Trump and align with his every peculiar assertion, occasionally diverging into bizarre right-wing narratives typical of someone who’s never had to listen to dissent.
I won’t cite any specific comments Trump made during the discussion as they were either too ludicrous to transcribe or simply replications of his usual rally rhetoric.
A major issue for Trump at this moment is that he has become nearly Exceedingly dull. Construct a barrier. Drill, baby, drill. Some Marxist, socialist chatter. Harris has just recently embraced her Black identity. Yada, yada, yada.
Musk has granted Trump the same dubious favor he extended to Ron DeSantis. Oops!
For Trump, meeting with an eccentric billionaire that lacks popularity and struggling through an unsuccessful interview was, as Donald J. Trump put it, “a DISASTER!”
Musk, with his social media blunders and unwarranted self-importance, made DeSantis appear foolish. And he’s now done the same to Trump.
At this rate, if Musk continues like this, I might actually start to like him.
