Donald Trump Avoids Mention of Mark Robinson at North Carolina Rally
WASHINGTON − On Saturday, former President Donald Trump addressed North Carolina voters but had nothing to say about Mark Robinson, the struggling gubernatorial candidate in his party.
Who’s that?
Trump completely ignored Robinson, who is the GOP’s nominee for governor in this important state, at a rally held at an airport in Wilmington. This occurred just two days after a troubling news report raised concerns about Robinson’s past online behavior, which could impact Trump’s prospects in this critical battleground.
“This is an extremely crucial state,” Trump told his supporters in North Carolina during the rally that Robinson was absent from. “If we win here, I believe things will be resolved quickly.”
CNN revealed that Robinson, currently serving as the state’s lieutenant governor, made shocking remarks on a pornography website’s forum over a decade ago. He referred to himself as a “black NAZI!” and advocated for the re-establishment of slavery.
Robinson has denied writing the posts referenced by CNN.
Following this news, Kamala Harris’s supporters have made efforts to associate Trump with Robinson, as they aim to capture a state that Trump narrowly won in the last two presidential elections.
In conjunction with the Wilmington rally, Harris’s campaign circulated a memo asserting that “Donald Trump’s and Mark Robinson’s fortunes in North Carolina are interconnected.” It highlighted their shared stances against abortion rights, their desire to repeal the current healthcare law, and their plans to diminish the Department of Education.
The memo also recounted Trump’s past praises for Robinson, calling him “Martin Luther King on steroids” in March and claiming in December that Robinson would “be remembered as one of the great leaders in our nation.”
Additionally, Democrats highlighted an earlier comment from Robinson where he stated, “slavery isn’t a bad thing. Some individuals need to be slaves. I would definitely support bringing it back.”
As the CNN story surfaced, Trump has refrained from making any comments about Robinson, including whether he believes Robinson should exit the governor race in North Carolina.
During the Wilmington rally, Trump acknowledged a variety of North Carolina Republicans, yet Robinson was not present.
Trump also put focus on his new campaign approach aimed at attracting women voters.
As Kamala Harris holds a substantial lead in polls among women, Trump claimed that they are economically worse off and feel less secure now compared to his presidency. He argued that women would fare better if states controlled abortion policies, even though some states are looking to ban the procedure.
“I will address all of this, women,” Trump affirmed during his speech. “I will set it all right.”
Before the rally began, Trump announced on his Truth Social platform: “We are unveiling our Official Trump Coins! The ONLY official coin designed by me—and proudly minted in the U.S.A.”
Right after the CNN report, the Trump campaign released a statement thanking North Carolina voters but chose not to refer to Robinson by name.
“President Trump’s campaign is committed to winning the White House and restoring our nation,” the communication stated. “Winning North Carolina is an essential part of that strategy.”
The statement concluded with: “We will maintain our focus on what matters.”
