On Friday morning, 38 individuals, including six who sustained serious injuries, were hurt on a United Airlines flight heading to Washington D.C., as reported by Nigerian officials over the weekend.

The flight, United Airlines flight 613, had to turn back to Lagos, Nigeria, after experiencing what officials termed an “unexpected movement.” Initially, it was reported that four passengers and two flight attendants were taken to the hospital for examination.

This flight utilized a Boeing 787 and was carrying 245 passengers along with eight flight attendants and three pilots.

The aircraft returned to Lagos at 3:22 a.m., as shared in an update by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on X.

“It landed safely in Lagos, and the four passengers and two flight attendants were treated for minor injuries and later released. We are collaborating with aviation authorities in both the U.S. and Nigeria to determine the cause,” United Airlines stated in a response to YSL News.

The Nigerian airport authorities revealed via an update on X that an extra 27 passengers and five crew members sustained minor injuries during the event.

These individuals received first aid and were quickly released “immediately.”

The four passengers and two flight attendants with serious injuries were stabilized at local medical facilities before being transported to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja, according to the airport authorities.

Medical teams were ready on the ground prior to the plane’s landing

In another post on X, the airport authority noted that medical teams were prepared and waiting on the ground before the aircraft arrived.

Social media visuals depict food and beverages scattered throughout the cabin of the plane.
