Two NYC Housing Authority Workers Arrested for Attack on Former Governor Paterson

On Tuesday, police authorities confirmed that two New York City workers were arrested in relation to a gang assault that happened over the weekend involving former Governor David Paterson and his stepson in Manhattan.

Initially, the NYPD reported the arrest of a 12-year-old on charges of second-degree gang assault and a 13-year-old facing third-degree gang assault for their involvement in the attack on 70-year-old Paterson, who is legally blind, along with his 20-year-old stepson, Anthony Sliwa.

According to police reports provided to YSL News on Tuesday, two additional suspects, Travor Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 34, who are both employed by the NYC Housing Authority, have also been arrested and charged with gang assault. They were off duty at the time of the incident.

The status of their employment, bonds, and legal representation was not disclosed on Tuesday.

YSL News has contacted the city’s housing authority for more information.

Incident Occurred While Walking Their Dog

The attack transpired shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Friday in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and both victims were hospitalized for treatment of injuries.

Sean Darcy, Paterson’s spokesperson, stated that the attackers had previously interacted with Sliwa while he and Paterson took their family dog for a walk in their neighborhood.

During the incident, both Paterson and his stepson were involved in a verbal dispute with five individuals. Following the argument, they were assaulted multiple times in the face and body along Second Avenue, according to officials.

Paterson sustained injuries to his face and head but was reported to be in stable condition after being taken to the hospital. His stepson also suffered facial injuries and was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Both were discharged from the hospital on Saturday, according to Darcy.

The two young boys involved surrendered to police after their parents took them to a precinct, as confirmed by Darcy.

Paterson is noted as the 55th governor of New York and was the first Black person to hold this position. He ascended to office in 2008 following the resignation of Eliot Spitzer amid a scandal and served until 2010.
