UCLA Ascends to the Top of YSL News Sports Women’s Basketball Rankings, Ousting Connecticut

UCLA Takes the Top Spot in the YSL News Sports Women’s Basketball Poll

The race for the top position in the YSL News Sports women’s basketball coaches poll was tight again this week, but the outcome changed slightly.

UCLA has claimed the No. 1 spot, surpassing last week’s leader, Connecticut, by three points. The Bruins earned 16 of 31 first-place votes, marking their first time at the top of the coaches poll since YSL News began it in the 2003-04 season.

Connecticut received 14 first-place votes again, just like the previous week, but UCLA’s three additional votes—thanks to Notre Dame’s challenging week—resulted in the shift in rankings.

Texas earned the last No. 1 vote and climbs to No. 3. South Carolina rises to No. 4, while LSU moves ahead of Southern California to complete the top five. Ohio State, Maryland, and Duke occupy the next three spots.

After suffering losses to TCU and Utah, Notre Dame fell from third to tenth place. TCU, which already has a win against No. 24 North Carolina State, makes a significant jump of eight spots to No. 13. Moreover, Michigan State enters the rankings at No. 25, replacing fellow Big Ten team Nebraska.
