UConn basketball coach Dan Hurley scolds an official: ‘Don’t ignore me,’ speaks after the game
On Tuesday, UConn basketball coach Dan Hurley faced criticism for scolding an official during the Huskies’ 80-78 win against Butler.
After what he viewed as an uncalled foul during a defensive rebound play late in the first half, television cameras captured Hurley asserting to an official, “Don’t ignore me; I’m the best coach in this (expletive) sport.”
Post-game, Hurley acknowledged his behavior but noted that the cameras seemed to focus on him too much, capturing his candid reactions.
“I just wish they’d point the camera at the other coach more often,” Hurley remarked. ” I’d like to see them highlight other coaches who are just as animated toward the officials during different Big East games where I’m not engaging with the referees; I notice other coaches getting quite emotional just like I do.
“But the attention, clearly I’ve brought this upon myself. I’m not portraying myself as a victim.”
