The draw for the UEFA Champions League took place on Thursday in Monaco. This season marks a shift to a new tournament structure that includes 36 teams competing in a single “league,” as opposed to the previous format of eight groups containing four teams each.

The teams were categorized into four groups of nine, with each team scheduled to play two matches (one at home and one away) against teams drawn from each group.

All participants will compete in this unified “league,” with the top eight teams automatically qualifying for the Round of 16. Teams ranked 9th to 16th will enter the knockout stage as seeded teams, while those finishing 17th to 24th will proceed as unseeded teams, competing in a two-legged playoff to earn a spot in the Round of 16.

Real Madrid enters the tournament as the reigning champions, having secured their 15th title by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the final of the previous season.

This year’s Champions League final is slated to take place on May 31, 2025, at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
