UK judge approves extradition of Colorado woman accused of murdering her children
Kimberlee Singler faces seven charges, including first-degree murder of her son and daughter.
A judge in the UK has dismissed a Colorado woman’s appeal against extradition, who is charged with killing her two children, according to reports from Reuters.
Kimberlee Singler, 36, is alleged to have drugged and murdered her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son in December 2023.
Prosecutors claim she also harmed her daughter, who was a preteen at the time, as per Reuters. Singler has denied all charges.
On Friday, just over a year following the children’s deaths, a judge in London ruled against her extradition request.
The case will now be forwarded to Yvette Cooper, the U.K.’s home secretary, as stated by NBC News. It will be up to Cooper to determine whether Singler will be returned to Colorado.
If convicted, Singler faces the possibility of life imprisonment without the chance of parole.
What are the allegations against Kimberlee Singler?
On December 19, 2023, police responded to a report of a burglary at Singler’s residence, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. When they arrived, they found Singler and her 11-year-old daughter injured, while her 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were found dead.
Singler and her surviving daughter were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Initially viewed as both a witness and victim, Singler was allowed to leave the hospital since there was insufficient evidence linking her to her children’s deaths, according to the police.
However, as the investigation progressed, authorities established that the report of a burglary was false, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Prosecutors have accused Singler of shooting her deceased children in the head and stabbing them in the neck, according to Reuters. At the time, she was involved in a lengthy custody dispute with her former partner.
She faces seven charges in total, which include the first-degree murders of her son and daughter, as reported by Reuters.
Although she initially seemed to be cooperating with the investigation, Singler vanished during the inquiry, the Colorado Springs police indicated in a statement.
