It’s an unfortunate situation when you check out from a hotel and, while heading to your next stop, realize you’ve left something behind in your room.
Ouch.
We’ve all experienced this, whether it’s a phone charger or a pile of dirty clothes mistakenly left behind in a hotel. According to the recent Hotel Room Innsights Report from Hotels.com, over one-third of the hotels surveyed reported that guests leave items behind on at least 25% of their stays.
In addition, housekeepers have discovered a variety of bizarre objects that travelers have inadvertently abandoned. In the same report, Hotels.com surveyed around 400 partner hotels to uncover the “shocking items” that guests left behind—some of which might make you curious about their backstories.
“Let’s face it: it’s intriguing to see what guests forget,” stated Melanie Fish, head of global public relations for Hotels.com, to YSL News. The report revealed that some hotels offer services like checklists to help remind guests of essential items upon checkout. “And for those of us prone to forgetfulness, there’s always a hotel staff member willing to go above and beyond to return our cherished belongings.”
Here are some of the most peculiar items hotel guests have left behind, according to Hotels.com.
