United Airlines Introduces Elon Musk’s Starlink Wi-Fi for Spring Flights

United Airlines to introduce Elon Musk’s Starlink Wi-Fi on flights this spring

Starting this spring, passengers traveling with United Airlines could potentially enjoy Wi-Fi powered by Starlink.

In September, United Airlines revealed their partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink, assuring travelers that they would provide “quick, dependable Wi-Fi service” at no cost on their mainline aircraft and regional jets.

On Sunday, United announced they would expedite this initiative. The testing phase is set to commence next month, with plans to equip regional jets with Starlink technology and have the first Starlink-enabled aircraft operating on major routes by the end of the year. The airline intends to incorporate Starlink across its entire fleet eventually.

“This year, we have numerous enhancements in store for our MileagePlus members, with the swift addition of Starlink-equipped planes being a major focus,” stated Richard Nunn, CEO of United MileagePlus, in a news release on Sunday.

To use the Starlink Wi-Fi, travelers are required to be members of MileagePlus, United’s loyalty program, which is free to enroll in. This Wi-Fi service will include options for streaming, shopping, and gaming during the flight. Passengers will be able to connect via the seatback screens and their personal devices.

Starlink, a satellite internet network run by SpaceX, has also formed agreements with Hawaiian Airlines and the regional carrier JSX.
