Claim Your Share: How to Benefit from Cash App’s $15M Security Settlement Before It’s Too Late

Cash App users have a limited opportunity to benefit from a $15 million settlement.

A class-action lawsuit reported by YSL News claims that Cash App Investing and Block Inc. failed to protect consumer data adequately.

What Caused the Cash App Security Breach?

The lawsuit revealed that a data breach in December 2021 led to the unauthorized exposure of personal information for 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing users.

A former staff member accessed and downloaded the users’ personal data without their consent during their tenure with the company, according to the lawsuit.

What’s the Deadline for the Cash App Security Settlement?

On November 7, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California approved some adjustments to the settlement deadlines, but the claim deadline remains set for Monday, November 18.

Am I Eligible to Submit a Claim?

Users can file a claim for up to $2,500 if they experienced unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers from their Cash App accounts between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, as stated on Cash App’s website.

Claimants must not have already received reimbursement from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or any third parties.

What Claims Can Cash App Users Submit?

Cash App users can file claims for the following situations:

  • Direct losses: Users can present a claim showing their Cash App account was part of the data breach. Once they provide the necessary documentation, they could be eligible for reimbursement up to $2,500.
  • Time spent: Claimants can be reimbursed for up to three hours at a rate of $25 an hour for time related to the unauthorized access and the breach.
  • Financial losses: Users who incurred financial losses without receiving reimbursement may also submit claims.

What if I Have Multiple Cash App Accounts?

Users should only submit one claims form. However, if you have multiple accounts, Cash App suggests listing all your cash tags ($cashtags) and details about each claim on a single form.
