In celebration of the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, Instagram has introduced a fun Easter egg linking to gold medals through its newest feature.
The social media platform owned by Meta announced this week that remarks containing specific Olympic-themed words will display in gold as the Games approach their conclusion. Notes, a recent addition to Instagram, allow users to leave messages directly on Reels or posts in their feed.
Here are some of the words (and emojis) that will make Notes appear gold on Instagram:

The latest update, rolled out in July, allows users to share Notes on their friends’ or brands’ posts, enabling real-time reactions and viewing others’ responses while scrolling. This feature previously appeared at the top of your inbox or near the profile picture.
Meta, which owns Instagram, is also the parent company of Facebook and WhatsApp.
How to utilize Instagram Notes
Follow these steps to use the new Notes feature:
- Click on the airplane/share icon
- Tap the “Note” icon at the bottom left
- Choose either “close friends” or “followers you follow back”
- Submit the note
Instagram increases limit for carousel posts
Along with introducing gold Notes, Instagram has also revealed that users can now upload up to 20 pieces of content in carousel posts, which is an increase from the previous limit of 10. This effectively doubles the amount of images and videos shared at one time.
