Unpacking the Family Ties: Isaac Wilson Takes the Field Against Oklahoma State

Is Isaac Wilson Zach Wilson’s brother? Freshman QB Isaac Wilson to start against Oklahoma State

Utah football is facing a tough challenge against No. 15 Oklahoma State this Saturday, missing starting quarterback Cam Rising. The team will bring in a well-known replacement.

The No. 12 Utes have chosen to start true freshman Isaac Wilson, who is the younger brother of Zach Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from BYU and currently a backup for the Denver Broncos.

In his second start filling in for Rising, Wilson went 20 for 33 passes for 239 yards and threw four touchdown passes last weekend against Utah State. Notably, he became the first true freshman in the program’s history to throw three touchdown passes in his debut.

Wilson was highly regarded in high school, ranked as the No. 280 player nationally and the No. 18 quarterback according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. He played at Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah.

Standing at 6 feet tall, Wilson breaks the trend of matchups between seventh-year quarterbacks, as Rising was set to go up against the Cowboys’ Alan Bowman, who is also in his seventh year of college football. Although Rising warmed up before the game, he was ruled unfit to play.

Is Isaac Wilson related to Zach Wilson?

Absolutely, Utah’s Isaac Wilson is the younger sibling of Zach Wilson, who was previously the No. 2 overall pick by the New York Jets and is now with the Denver Broncos after being traded in the offseason.

Zach played at BYU, becoming the second quarterback selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, right after the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence.
