Who is Matt Gaetz’s spouse, Ginger Luckey Gaetz?
As the Senate examines President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for Attorney General, former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, some Republican senators are urging the House Ethics Committee to release its findings on allegations of sexual misconduct.
Since starting his term in 2017 as the representative of Florida’s 1st Congressional District, Gaetz has faced multiple investigations concerning his behavior. The Justice Department, which he would oversee if appointed, conducted a three-year probe into accusations of sex trafficking against him but did not bring any charges.
The expected nominee for AG has received support from Trump’s supporters, including his wife, Ginger Luckey Gaetz, who took to X (formerly Twitter) on Nov. 13 to express her admiration: “Attorney General will look good on you my love.”
How did Matt and Ginger first meet?
Matt Gaetz and Ginger Luckey Gaetz first crossed paths at a fundraiser held at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in 2020, when Ginger was 26 years old. They became engaged just nine months later.
Ginger later revealed in a December 2020 interview with the Daily Mail that she hesitated to go to the event due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Though there’s a 12-year age difference between them, they immediately connected, and she accompanied him to a birthday celebration for Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is engaged to Donald Trump Jr.
The couple tied the knot in August 2021 in a private ceremony on Catalina Island, located off the coast of Southern California.
Background of Ginger Luckey Gaetz
Originally from California, Ginger Gaetz studied accounting at UC Santa Barbara, where she was also a skipper on the university’s sailing team. After completing her degree in 2016, she attended the University of California-Berkeley for business studies.
Prior to her current role as a manager at KPMG’s Enterprise Innovation, Partnerships, and Commercialization department, she worked as a financial analyst at both Apeel, a food technology company, and KPMG, a major accounting firm.
She is also the sister of Palmer Luckey, the billionaire founder of Oculus VR, known for creating virtual reality headsets. Palmer sold Oculus to Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion, with an additional $1 billion earmarked for retention bonuses and other incentives.
Has Ginger discussed her husband’s controversies?
Up until now, Ginger Luckey Gaetz has refrained from commenting on the scandals surrounding her husband. When announcing his nomination for attorney general on X, she said, “A fantastic choice, Mr. President.”
In contrast, her sister Roxanne Luckey has been outspoken about the allegations against Matt Gaetz. In a series of TikTok videos analyzed by The Daily Beast, she labeled her brother-in-law as “weird and creepy” and a “literal pedophile.”
Roxanne further shared in another video, “I recognized his character, and when the news broke about him, I was honestly not surprised.”
When approached for a response by The Daily Beast, Ginger mentioned that her sister was “unwell” and had been “estranged” from the family, asserting: “She has undergone therapy for years, and we hope that with in-patient mental health treatment, she will overcome the harmful behavior she has demonstrated repeatedly.”
Matt Gaetz, for his part, has consistently denied all allegations against him.
