Speakers at the DNC: President Joe Biden will headline Day 1
On the first day of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, President Joe Biden is set to deliver the final speech, followed by Hillary Clinton and other congressional leaders.
The 2024 Democratic National Committee convention kicks off on Monday evening, featuring a lineup of speakers such as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), First Lady Jill Biden, and President Joe Biden among others.
Notably, Biden will not be addressing the DNC as a candidate due to his withdrawal from the presidential race in July. Instead, at 81 years old, he is backing Vice President Kamala Harris as the preferred successor for the upcoming November election.
This event marks the opening day of the DNC, which runs until August 22 and is being held at the United Center in Chicago. YSL News will stream the convention live on YouTube every night.
Day one is set to start at 5 p.m. EST and will conclude around 10:15 p.m. EST.
When is Joe Biden speaking at the DNC?
Biden is expected to speak last on the first day of the convention. His advisors informed the New York Times that the president aims to highlight why Harris is the ideal candidate for maintaining his legacy.
His last public statement was on July 24, shortly after he confirmed his exit from the race.
“I cherish this office, but my love for my country surpasses everything,” Biden expressed in his remarks. “Serving as your president has been the greatest honor in my life. However, in defending democracy, which hangs in the balance, I believe this is more significant than any title.”
He also stated, “The best way to move forward is by passing the torch to a new generation.”
