NBA All-Star Game snubs: Who had a case to be a starter?
As in every year, some players put forth compelling arguments for why they should have been chosen as starters or at least received serious consideration. With only five starting positions available for each conference, the competition between being named a starter and being selected as a reserve is intensely close.
Discover the players who have been considered snubs for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game here.
How are All-Star starters chosen?
Since 2017, the process for selecting NBA All-Star starters has involved a weighted vote from fans (50%), NBA players (25%), and a media panel (25%). Each conference features two backcourt starters and three frontcourt starters. In case of a tie, the fan vote serves as the tiebreaker.
According to the NBA, “a player’s score is calculated using the formula (Fan Rank * 2 + Player Rank + Media Rank)/4.” For instance, if Player A ranks second in fan votes, third in player votes, and third in media votes, they have a weighted score of 2.5.
Last year, Damian Lillard and Jalen Brunson were tied with a weighted score of 3.75, but due to Lillard being ranked third by fans while Brunson was fifth, Lillard was awarded the starting position.
