Spotify Wrapped is here: Discover yours and what’s new for 2024
This year’s eagerly awaited report showcases a nostalgic overview of users’ musical journeys, along with lots of AI features.
Think you know what your listening habits have been this year? Prepare for some surprises.
Spotify Wrapped 2024 made its debut in inboxes on Wednesday morning, likely bringing some unexpected insights. Maybe you logged 40 hours of emotional pop music, or spent an entire week tuning into Taylor Swift. Perhaps you were among the top 1% of listeners for “Defying Gravity,” overshadowing even the biggest musical enthusiasts.
No matter what surprises lie ahead, Spotify is revealing personalized reports filled with data about which artists you listened to the most, and for how long.
Spotify Wrapped has become a significant annual event, providing a “moment to reflect and a reminder of the past year,” according to Sulinna Ong, Spotify’s Global Head of Editorial.
So, here’s how you can check out your Spotify Wrapped, along with the exciting new features for this year.
How to view your Spotify Wrapped: Accessing it is simple
To check your Spotify Wrapped, open the app and click on the “wrapped” tab at the top, which will guide you to your personalized summary.
If you create music or podcasts, you can dive deeper into insights regarding your content separately.
If you don’t see the “wrapped” option, try updating your app and check again.
When does Spotify Wrapped stop collecting data? Is December included?
The exact data cutoff is unclear, and that’s intentional.
While it seems like December’s listening data isn’t counted since it doesn’t appear in the month-by-month overview, Spotify hasn’t revealed a precise end date for data gathering.
This ambiguity helps maintain the element of surprise, as the joy of Wrapped lies in being pleasantly shocked (or dismayed) by one’s musical preferences. If a specific cutoff date were mentioned, users might try to manipulate the results, cleaning up any “awkward” tracks that might skew their data.
Spotify encourages you to play that “Glee” cast album freely or indulge in a sing-along to “MMmbop” during your commute.
What’s fresh in Spotify Wrapped 2024?
While some features will feel familiar this time around, there are also numerous exciting additions.
One notable feature is “Your Music Evolution,” which provides a personalized story of the different musical phases you experienced throughout the year. With up to three distinct phases, this is particularly timely for 2024 as Taylor Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour” popularized the notion of personal “eras.”
Similar to Apple Music’s Replay feature, Spotify has also incorporated listening streaks into this year’s report, revealing how many consecutive days you listened to a specific artist. Additionally, the share function has been enhanced, showing whether the song or album you’re sharing is among your most frequently played.
AI features take center stage in Spotify Wrapped
In 2023, Spotify introduced AI capabilities with its AI DJ feature, which now also operates in Spanish, selecting playlists for users. This AI DJ feature is now included in Wrapped, enabling premium members to discover music based on prompts like “find me artists similar to my most listened-to tracks.”
This year’s Wrapped also includes a tailored AI podcast that analyzes your listening behavior, powered by Google’s Notebook LM.
Spotify Wrapped expands into podcasts and audiobooks
As audiobooks gain immense popularity, Spotify has broadened the scope of Wrapped to include trends in listening to audiobooks.
This year’s report highlights the most popular authors and audiobooks enjoyed worldwide, alongside a section for authors to see what audiences engaged with their work (musicians and podcasters share similar insights).
Podcasts are now essential for streaming services, as more people seek the conversations of true crime enthusiasts, advice experts on dating, and cultural critics for their daily soundtrack.
“Podcasts today play a significant role in how we share ideas,” stated Jordan Newman, Spotify’s Head of Content Partnerships. Notable podcast hosts like Joe Rogan and Alex Cooper have emerged as influential voices, transforming their shows into “digital town squares where important political discussions take place,” Newman added.
This year, Spotify will present a mix of video and audio content during Wrapped. The event will highlight brief video messages from popular podcast hosts expressing gratitude to their most dedicated fans. Additionally, a “2024 in Podcasts” section will be available in the app, featuring suggestions for users looking for new shows to enjoy.
Spotify logo gets a fresh look
The Wrapped event is significant, and Spotify’s famous bright green logo is getting a stylish update. For this occasion, the streaming service is unveiling several new “expressive” logos inspired by punk, coquette, and Western styles.
When will Spotify Wrapped be available?
Spotify Wrapped was released at 8 am ET on December 4.
The physical advertising campaign also launched on Wednesday, featuring billboards tailored to reflect streaming trends in various cities worldwide. For instance, Peso Pluma appeared on billboards in Mexico City, Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” was showcased in West Hollywood, and Tinashe had a billboard highlighting Manhattan as the “nastiest” borough in New York.
