Context for Tonight’s Debate

The upcoming debate on Tuesday occurs just days after Hurricane Helene struck, causing significant damage in the Southeastern states, with many residents in Appalachia still recovering.

As of Monday, Helene’s death toll reached at least 100, with hundreds still unaccounted for. Currently, 1.5 million homes are without power.

On recent visits, Trump toured Valdosta, Georgia, on Monday, while Biden is expected to visit the areas severely affected in North Carolina on Wednesday.

Walz mentioned he had spoken with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, expressing that “our hearts are just breaking.” It’s possible that both Vance and Walz will address the hurricane’s impact during the debate.

Additionally, hours before the candidates take the stage in New York, Iran executed a ballistic missile strike against Israel.

This missile attack follows Israel’s intense airstrikes and limited ground operations targeting the Iranian-supported militant group Hezbollah.

Prep Work for Vance and Walz Ahead of the Debate

Vance and Walz are gearing up for their New York debate, which might be one of the most significant vice-presidential debates ever, and both candidates are preparing earnestly.

Walz has been busy campaigning nationwide, and his team has been rehearsing informally between campaign stops. Formal preparations began last week, with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg standing in for Vance in practice debates, as reported by a reliable source.

On Monday, Walz took a break from his intense prep by walking through downtown Petoskey and visiting local shops with his wife and daughter.

During practice sessions, House Republican Whip Tom Emmer has portrayed Walz, according to ABC News.

“I’ve known Tim since he was first elected nearly 20 years ago, and I’ve worked closely with him for four years. The last month, I’ve gone back over all his previous work to capture his phrases and mannerisms,” Emmer stated in an interview with “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz. “My role was to help JD Vance know what to expect from Tim Walz.”

Trump’s Plans for the Debate Commentary

The Vance-Walz debate is expected to spark extensive commentary on social media, especially from one notably biased commentator: Trump.

Trump announced, “I will be providing a personal LIVE COMMENTARY of the Debate,” on his Truth Social platform, clearly indicating that he has already chosen who he believes will win.

He characterized the matchup as between the “Brilliant” Vance and the “Highly Inarticulate” Walz.
