Vince McMahon Slams Netflix Docuseries on Mr. McMahon as ‘Misleading’

Vince McMahon condemns Netflix’s ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries, labels it ‘misleading’

The former CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon, has criticized the upcoming Netflix docuseries titled “Mr. McMahon,” describing it as a “misleading” and “deceptive” portrayal of himself.

In a statement released on Monday, McMahon stated he does not regret being part of the documentary which is set to premiere this week. The six-part series outlines his journey to power along with various controversies linked to him. The trailer suggests it will touch on a lawsuit by a former WWE employee who accuses McMahon of abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

He remarked that the producers had an opportunity “to narrate an unbiased account of my life and the remarkable company I’ve built, which has been rich with excitement, drama, enjoyment, and a mix of controversies and lessons.”

“Regrettably, from what I’ve seen in an early cut, this documentary misses the mark and takes the well-trodden route of merging the ‘Mr. McMahon’ persona with my actual identity, Vince,” he elaborated. “The title and promotional materials alone make that clear. A lot has been misrepresented or completely omitted to intentionally confuse viewers. The filmmakers resort to standard editing tactics, utilizing out-of-context clips and outdated soundbites to twist the audience’s understanding and reinforce a false narrative.”

“To bolster their erroneous narrative, the filmmakers use a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as proof that I embody ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I urge viewers to maintain an open mind and bear in mind that every story has two sides,” he said.

Netflix describes the series as one that “explores the mogul’s controversial period” at the helm of WWE, culminating in his resignation as executive chairman and board member of TKO Group Holdings earlier this year. His resignation followed allegations from former WWE employee Janel Grant who stated that McMahon subjected her to sexual acts marked by “extreme cruelty and degradation.” Grant claims McMahon made her sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding their relationship for $3 million, but she did not receive the full amount and is seeking to annul the agreement through her lawsuit. Presently, the U.S. Department of Justice is launching its own inquiry into McMahon.

Attorney reacts to Vince McMahon’s remarks

Janel Grant was not interviewed for the docuseries, according to her legal team last week. Following McMahon’s statement, Ann Callis, Grant’s attorney, informed TODAY Sports that referring to “his horrific and criminal behavior as ‘an affair’ is outlandish and merely a desperate attempt to preserve his tarnished reputation.”

“Vince McMahon has physically and emotionally abused, sexually assaulted, and human trafficked Janel Grant for over two years,” Callis stated. “While Ms. Grant has not viewed the ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries, we hope it exposes his appalling and criminal conduct by accurately reflecting the truth of his abusive and exploitative actions.”

“Ms. Grant will not be silenced by McMahon any longer. Her experience, though deeply disturbing and profoundly painful, can empower other survivors of abuse to find their voices. We aim to hold McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE accountable while ensuring Ms. Grant has her chance to present her case in court,” Callis added.

The docuseries “Mr. McMahon” will be available for streaming on Wednesday.
