Beginning now and lasting until Christmas Day, Walmart will provide discounts enabling shoppers to prepare holiday meals for under $7 per person, as confirmed by a spokesperson to YSL News on Wednesday.
The retail giant is reintroducing its “inflation-free Thanksgiving meal” for the 2024 Turkey Day, with a curated shopping list available for customers to easily purchase their Thanksgiving necessities.
This shopping list, which totals just over $53, can be accessed at www.walmart.com/thanksgiving.
Among the items listed are a Honeysuckle white whole turkey weighing between 10 to 17 pounds priced at $12.41, Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce for $1.98, and Marie Callender’s southern pecan pie for $5.63.
“This year, the meal is offered earlier and at an even more affordable price than last year, allowing customers to enjoy savings on all holiday meal essentials, making Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Sunday night dinners more manageable and budget-friendly throughout the season,” a Walmart representative stated to YSL News on Wednesday afternoon.
How to gift a meal to a family in need
Walmart also mentioned that customers have the option to send meals to families anywhere in the U.S. via the retailer’s website.
Customers can contribute $50 to donate a Thanksgiving meal to local Salvation Army branches by visiting www.walmart.com/ip/donateameal.
This combination of deals and donation options arrives at a time when food prices are on the rise, anticipated to increase further, according to the Economic Research Service, a branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Although the growth of food prices has slowed in 2023, prices for food purchased at home rose by 5%, while dining out saw a 7.1% increase, as reported by the agency.
The research group highlighted in its Food Price Outlook for 2024 and 2025 that from July to August 2024, prices for seven categories of food purchased at home saw increases.
Prices for meats such as beef, veal, poultry, eggs, and fresh vegetables are projected to rise in 2024.
However, some food items may see a price reduction. For instance, the USDA anticipates that prices for fish and seafood may decrease by 1.6% in 2024.
