‘We’re Back!!!’ Wayans Brothers Team Up Again for ‘Scary Movie 6’
Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans are coming together to write the script for the highly anticipated ‘Scary Movie 6,’ set to release in theaters next year.
The iconic Wayans brothers are reuniting to create the script for “Scary Movie 6,” marking their first collaboration on this comedic parody film series in more than twenty years.
The trio – Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans – has been confirmed as the writers for “Scary Movie 6.” This was first announced at CinemaCon back in April. Paramount Pictures will manage the worldwide distribution of the film as part of its first-look agreement with Miramax, which also distributed the original three films, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
“We are excited to bring Scary Movie back with the Wayans brothers, the creative force behind the cherished franchise,” stated Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman in a release shared with the publication. “The timing is right to revive the series on the big screen, and we are fortunate to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s one-of-a-kind comedic talent for audiences globally.”
YSL News reached out to Miramax on Tuesday but has yet to receive a reply.
‘Excited for Some Fun’
The original “Scary Movie” debuted in theaters in July 2000 and spawned four sequels. According to IMDB, Keenen Ivory Wayans directed the first two films, while all three brothers contributed writing for all five movies and starred in two of them.
Marlon Wayans confirmed the announcement on Tuesday through an X post stating, “WE’RE BACK!!! After almost 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally delivering what fans have been eagerly waiting for… a comeback to the SCARY MOVIE series! We can’t wait to enjoy ourselves on the big screen again.”
Shawn Wayans shared the same message in an Instagram post on Tuesday, tagging his brothers Marlon and Keenen Wayans.
“Scary Movie,” which opened to $42 million at the domestic box office, parodies popular films including “Scream,” “The Sixth Sense,” “The Matrix,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “The Blair Witch Project.” The subsequent four films follow a similar comedic structure.
What’s the Release Date for ‘Scary Movie 6’?
The new installment is expected to start filming ahead of its tentative release in 2025, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. A director and specific release date have yet to be announced.
Details regarding the plot or cast remain unclear, including whether Anna Faris or Regina Hall will reprise their iconic roles as Cindy and Brenda. There has been no confirmation from the Wayans brothers about their potential involvement in the film.
