When is the VP debate tonight? How to tune in as Vance and Walz compete in the 2024 election

Here’s how to watch the ‘CBS News Vice Presidential Debate’

Tonight, the two candidates for vice president will engage in a debate in New York City.

Democratic Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota and Republican Senator JD Vance from Ohio will face off approximately a month after the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in Philadelphia.

This debate occurs in the final weeks of a close presidential race, with the election happening in just over a month.

Both vice presidential candidates decided on an October 1 debate date after CBS News suggested four possible options (Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8).

“Looking forward to seeing you on October 1, JD,” Walz tweeted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on August 14.

Vance confirmed his participation in the October 1 debate the next day but also suggested a debate on CNN for September 18. Harris’ campaign spokesperson, Michael Tyler, informed CBS News that Walz would only debate on October 1.

Here’s what we know about the debate happening on October 1 between Walz and Vance, including how to watch it and who will be moderating.
