Update on Xavier Newman’s Injury: Jets Offensive Lineman Stretchered Off Against Steelers

Xavier Newman, an offensive lineman for the New York Jets, had to be taken off the field on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital following a head injury during “Sunday Night Football.”

The incident occurred when the Pittsburgh Steelers were making a return on an interception, and linebacker Patrick Queen accidentally collided helmet-to-helmet with Newman. As a result, Newman fell backward and struck his head on the ground.

Newman stayed on the field for several minutes, appearing to be unresponsive. Medical staff were called to stabilize his head and neck before he was loaded onto a stretcher.

As reported by NBC, Newman was quickly taken to the hospital. Sideline reporter Melissa Stark noted that he had some movement in his limbs before departing the stadium.

Who is Xavier Newman’s Backup on the Jets’ Roster?

Newman reportedly stepped in for injured Alijah Vera-Tucker at guard during Sunday’s match. The Jets have him listed as a backup behind center Joe Tippmann and left guard Joe Simpson.

Following Newman’s injury, Jake Hanson filled in at right guard for the Jets. The team does not seem to have any other available healthy interior offensive linemen in case of another injury. Rookie tackle Olu Fashanu is the only other healthy lineman left.
