Live Updates: Yankees vs. Guardians in ALCS Game 5 – NY Could Advance to World Series

In this playoff where every out is precious, the New York Yankees need just 27 more outs to secure a spot in the World Series.

The Yankees are set to face the Guardians on Saturday evening for Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. New York is leading the series 3-1 and will put their trust in Carlos Rodón, who won Game 1, while Cleveland counters with Tanner Bibee.

The outcome of this game is likely to hinge on the performance of the bullpens. The Yankees have had success against Cleveland’s closer Emmanuel Clase over the past couple of games but managed to win only one of those contests due to struggles from their own closer, Luke Weaver, in Game 3. He is expected to be ready for action tonight, potentially celebrating the win if New York clinches the pennant.

The Guardians aim to turn the tide and catch a flight back to New York for a possible Game 6 on Monday.

Stay tuned for live updates throughout Saturday’s game:

Giancarlo Stanton Hits Home Run to Equalize in Sixth Inning

Once again, the Cleveland Guardians managed to neutralize Aaron Judge. However, Giancarlo Stanton proved he’s undoubtedly a power threat in the Yankees lineup.

In the sixth inning of Game 5, Stanton delivered a game-tying two-run homer, which rocketed off his bat at an impressive speed of 117.5 mph.

Guardians Lead Yankees 2-0 After Five Innings

In their first encounter with the Yankees in the ALCS, Tanner Bibee struggled, unable to complete the second inning. However, with the stakes high for the Guardians, he has performed exceptionally well tonight.

Bibee has pitched five consecutive shutout innings, including a stretch where he retired 10 batters in a row. Steven Kwan’s RBI single helped the Guardians secure a 2-0 lead as they reached the fifth inning of Game 5.

With Cleveland’s well-regarded bullpen showing signs of fatigue after tough outings in Games 3 and 4, Bibee’s ability to go deep into the game is crucial. He has notched five strikeouts and created a double play to aid his team. Meanwhile, Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodón was taken out after 4 2/3 innings, leaving the advantage with Cleveland.

Bo Naylor’s Hit Brings in Brother Josh for Guardians’ First Run

The Guardians relied on the Naylor brothers to get ahead in ALCS Game 5.

Bo Naylor completed a tough 10-pitch battle with Carlos Rodón by slicing a double into the right-field corner, allowing his brother Josh to score from home plate on the two-out hit, putting Cleveland ahead 1-0 against the Yankees.

Though it’s early in the game, the Guardians appear to be in a favorable position. Rodón, who was the winning pitcher in Game 1, has thrown 40 pitches in just two innings while Guardians starter Tanner Bibee has navigated through the first two innings without conceding any runs.

Controversial Call: Yankees Third Base Coach Signals Torres Out in First Inning

Gleyber Torres got the game started with a single, followed by a double from Juan Soto that hit the wall in right center. Third base coach Luis Rojas waved Torres home, but Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez threw a perfect strike to the plate, where catcher Bo Naylor made the tag to secure the out.

Despite Tanner Bibee hitting both Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm to fill the bases, he managed to get Anthony Rizzo to fly out to left field, leaving the bases loaded.
