Zayn Malik Postpones U.S. Tour Following Liam Payne’s Death

Zayn Malik has announced the postponement of the U.S. leg of his tour due to the passing of Liam Payne.

The “Alienated” artist shared the update on his Instagram Story on Saturday, informing fans that the new tour dates are now set for January, following the “heartbreaking” loss of his former One Direction bandmate.

“In light of the heartbreaking loss this week, I have decided to postpone the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” Malik shared, noting the performances were meant to kick off on October 23.

Payne, who was one of the five members of the renowned British boy band, tragically passed away after a fall outside a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday. In his message, Malik pledged to keep fans informed about the rescheduled dates.

“The shows will be rescheduled to January, and I will announce the new dates in the next few days. Your tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled dates,” he said, expressing gratitude to fans: “I love you all, and thank you for your understanding.”

The U.S. leg of Malik’s tour was slated to commence next week in San Francisco, following the tour’s launch in Las Vegas, with additional stops in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City.

YSL News has reached out to Malik’s representatives for further comments.

In 2010, Malik and Payne gained worldwide fame as part of the pop group One Direction, which also included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson. The band was formed on the British version of “The X-Factor.” Malik notably exited One Direction in March 2015 while the band was in the midst of a world tour.

“After five amazing years, Zayn Malik has decided to leave One Direction,” a statement on the band’s Facebook page indicated. “Niall, Harry, Liam, and Louis will continue on as a four-piece, looking forward to the upcoming concerts of their world tour and recording their fifth album, which is set to be released later this year.”

Reflecting on his departure, Malik said: “My time with One Direction has been more than I could have ever hoped for. However, after five years, I believe this is the right time for me to move on. I apologize to the fans if I’ve disappointed anyone, but I must follow my heart.”

Later that August, the remaining members of One Direction—including Payne—announced they would be taking a break. The band officially went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 following the release of their fifth album, “Made in the A.M.” All members, including Malik, have since enjoyed successful solo careers.

Zayn Malik Reflects on Loss: ‘I Lost a Brother When You Left Us’

“I lost a brother when you left us, and I’m at a loss for words to describe what I would give for one last hug to say goodbye and to let you know how much I loved and respected you,” he shared.

Malik continued: “I will hold all our memories in my heart forever; no words can truly convey how devastated I feel right now.”
