Zayn Malik apologizes after England concert cancellation just hours before the show
Zayn Malik has expressed regret to his fans following the last-minute cancellation of a concert in England, a few weeks after the passing of Liam Payne.
The artist behind “Alienated” posted on his Instagram story about the cancellation of the Newcastle concert shortly before it was set to start, emphasizing concerns for his vocal health. “I’m so sorry to do this but my voice just isn’t there at all tonight and without it there’s no show,” he mentioned.
“I’m genuinely sorry to disappoint you, especially with such short notice. I held onto hope until the very last moment. I’m hopeful with some rest tonight to be back on stage tomorrow,” Malik added in his message to those attending the Stairway to the Sky Tour.
In a performance last month in England, Malik paid tribute to his late One Direction bandmate, who tragically died in late October after a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina.
A TikTok video captured the moment when, after Malik, 31, left the stage, the flashing lights abruptly ceased, and text appeared on the screen that read, “Liam Payne 1993-2024,” followed by a message that said, “Love you bro” along with a heart symbol.
Following Payne’s demise, Malik also decided to postpone the U.S. portion of his Stairway to the Sky Tour.
The “Alienated” artist announced this on his Instagram Story on October 19, explaining that the dates would be pushed to January due to the passing of his former One Direction member.
“Due to the devastating loss we’ve faced this week, I’ve made the choice to delay the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” Malik noted regarding the shows that were due to begin on October 23.
Malik attended Payne’s funeral in November, where Payne’s casket was transported by a horse-drawn carriage. Witnesses saw Payne’s parents, Karen and Geoff Payne, visibly grieving.
Malik was joined by his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson at the funeral, along with Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, as well as friends like Simon Cowell, James Corden, model Damian Hurley, and Kimberley Walsh from “Girls Aloud.”
