Democratic Senator John Fetterman Advocates for Pardons for Hunter Biden and Donald Trump

On Thursday, Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania stated that both Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, and President-elect Donald Trump should receive pardons, as their legal cases were influenced by political motivations.

“It’s clear that the charges against Hunter Biden were politically driven, and I believe the same can be said for the trial in New York regarding Trump,” Fetterman expressed during a guest appearance on “The View.”

Joe Biden has faced criticism from Republicans and some members of his own party for granting a wide-reaching pardon to his son, Hunter, who was convicted in June of three federal offenses related to lying about his drug use during a gun purchase in 2018. He also pleaded guilty to federal tax evasion charges for the years 2016 to 2019.

“No fair-minded individual reviewing the facts around Hunter’s situation could conclude anything other than he was targeted solely due to his relationship as my son – and that is unjust,” Joe Biden asserted when announcing the pardon.

Senior aides to the president are currently in talks about possible preemptive pardons for individuals whom they believe Trump may aim to prosecute, as reported by a source familiar with the discussions.

Earlier this year, Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts by a New York jury linked to falsifying business records tied to hush-money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

In this case, however, a pardon would need to be managed at the state level. This week, Trump filed a motion in the New York criminal court to dismiss both his convictions and the indictment, claiming his return to the White House as justification.

Fetterman, who is known for his independent thinking within the Democratic Party, said he believes that pardons would be suitable for both individuals, stating, “We should not allow institutions to be used against our political rivals.”

Both Hunter Biden and Trump have faced jury convictions, and there is no proof that these juries were swayed by political influences.

Some Democrats, including Rep. James Clyburn from South Carolina and independent Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia, have expressed support for pardoning Trump.

Nonetheless, the Pennsylvania senator made it clear that no pardons should be offered for those found guilty of violence related to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. One of Trump’s notable campaign pledges was to pardon certain individuals who were charged in connection with the events of that day.
