Stowaway Detained After Secretly Boarding Flight from New York to Paris: Latest Updates

A stowaway from NYC to Paris has been arrested, facing charges: Reports

Reports indicate that Svetlana Dali, 57, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Svetlana Dali, a 57-year-old woman accused of sneaking onto a Delta Airlines flight from New York to Paris during Thanksgiving week, was arrested upon her return to the United States and is likely to face charges, according to reports.

ABC News reported that the Russian national was detained by the FBI after she disembarked at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York on Wednesday, having flown from Charles de Gaulle Airport in France with Delta.

Both CNN and CBS News stated that Dali is facing charges of being a stowaway on a vessel or aircraft without authorization. She is slated to appear in court on Thursday, and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is also set to open a civil case against her.

“The TSA will pursue civil cases against passengers when there is evidence that security protocols might have been breached,” TSA spokesperson Alexa Lopez informed CNN.

YSL News has contacted the TSA, FBI, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York for statements.

Suspect ‘evaded two identity checks and boarding status stations’

The Transportation Security Administration reported that the incident transpired on Delta flight 264 traveling from New York to Paris on November 26.

TSA spokesperson David Fitz told YSL News that the individual was “screened for prohibited items,” managed to “evade two identity verification and boarding status checks, and boarded the plane” without a boarding pass.

Fitz confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. According to ABC News, the stowaway was found during the flight and was removed after the plane landed in Paris. The method by which she circumvented security to board the flight remains unclear.

Delta Airlines is ‘collaborating closely’ with law enforcement

Delta Airlines issued a statement to YSL News on Thursday, expressing appreciation to law enforcement officials in both the U.S. and France.

“Our review confirms that Delta’s security infrastructure, part of our Safety Management System, is effective, and it was a deviation from standard protocols that caused this incident,” the statement asserted. “We are taking this matter seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with our regulators, law enforcement, and other relevant parties. Safety and security are our top priorities.”
