An American Airlines aircraft collides with the tail of a stationary plane at Philadelphia airport
On Sunday, an American Airlines plane accidentally struck a stationary aircraft during pushback at Philadelphia International Airport.
The tail of American Airlines flight 3161, which was on its way to Miami, “touched the tail of a nearby parked plane” as it was being pushed back from the gate, according to a statement from the airline.
The flight carried 160 passengers and six crew members, and it was reported that “customers exited the aircraft without any issues” following the incident and “boarded a replacement plane to continue their journey to MIA.”
“We sincerely apologize for the disruption this incident caused our passengers,” American Airlines stated.
‘No injuries reported’
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but the affected aircraft has been taken out of service for inspection, the statement detailed.
The parked aircraft involved in the incident was empty, with no passengers or crew onboard, as per American Airlines.
Just last week, a flight from American Airlines heading to Charlotte had to return to New York City after it appeared to collide with a bird. That flight, which had six crew members and 190 passengers, successfully landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport and underwent inspection by American Airlines’ maintenance team.
The runway at the airport was closed for approximately 10 minutes, as reported by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to YSL News on Thursday.
