David Murphey, Star of ’90 Day Fiancé,’ Passes Away at 66 After Ongoing Health Problems
David Murphey, a reality television figure recognized for his role on “90 Day Fiancé,” has passed away at the age of 66.
Muphey’s family emotionally shared the news of his death on Instagram, noting he passed away on December 11.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Murphey from Las Vegas, Nevada, at his home on December 11, 2024, after battling health problems for the past few years,” the family wrote. “He was 66 years old.”
The specific details surrounding Murphey’s health issues have not been revealed in the announcement. In a post from March 2023, he mentioned he had been frequently hospitalized for three months, as doctors struggled to identify his condition.
During that time, he indicated that his liver wasn’t functioning properly and that he was facing problems with his pancreas and kidneys.
Murphey became a part of TLC’s reality dating series in 2020, featuring in the fourth season of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” which documents the experiences of international couples who first meet in person after forming online relationships.
On the show, Murphey became romantically involved with a Ukrainian woman named Lana, and they even got engaged, though they later broke up. He disclosed in an episode of the “90 Days” spin-off, “90 Days Diaries,” that their relationship ended after Lana declined to remove her profiles from various dating sites, as reported by Entertainment Tonight and People magazine.
“Lana believed that since we were engaged, I should help her with things I promised, like arranging English lessons and moving her into an apartment,” Murphey recounted regarding the split. “But one of my conditions was that she had to come off the dating site, and since she didn’t, I didn’t provide any of those supports. Four months into our engagement, we just lost touch.”
The family also shared on Instagram that Murphey “cherished the time on the show, allowing him to connect with fans, explore the world, and share his journey with thousands of Instagram followers.”
In addition to his television career, his family mentioned that Murphey was a small business entrepreneur and a software engineer. He had recently retired from his position at the Clark County Treasurer’s office in Nevada and had previously worked for companies like H&R Block and IGT.
He is survived by his two sisters and his beloved cat, Gamera.
In honor of Murphey’s passion for cats, his family requested that fans make donations to The Animal Foundation.
