The Starbucks workers’ strike has now extended to 12 states, as confirmed by union representatives to YSL News on Monday.

The strike started on Friday and initially closed down locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, but has since spread to Starbucks cafes in states including New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Denver, Pittsburgh, and Columbus, Ohio, according to Starbucks Workers United.

Labor representatives reported that union members in Boston, the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and Portland, Oregon, have also joined the demonstrations.

Phil McGee, a Starbucks spokesperson, stated that the “few disruptions” caused by the strike have not notably affected the company’s overall operations as only a limited number of stores have been affected.

“We respect our partners’ right to engage in lawful strike activity, and we appreciate the thousands of partners across the country who are continuing to support each other and provide the Starbucks experience to our customers,” McGee remarked in a statement provided to YSL News.

Union warned that the strike might impact ‘hundreds of stores’ before Christmas Eve

Union officials mentioned that 98% of their members voted in favor of the strike due to concerns regarding low wages, staffing shortages, and benefits.

Starbucks operates over 11,000 locations across the United States and employs nearly 200,000 individuals, according to Reuters.

Last week, Starbucks Workers United indicated that the strike could potentially extend to “hundreds of stores” by Christmas Eve.

Union representatives expressed their willingness to return to the negotiation table to discuss their concern.
