President Joe Biden Approves a 2% Salary Increase for Most Civilian Federal Workers

A majority of federal workers will see an increase in their salaries as the new year begins, following an executive order signed by President Joe Biden on Monday.

The order, which was revealed by the White House on Monday, specifies that a 2% salary hike will be applicable to most civilian federal workers starting January 2025. As reported by Federal News Network, this raise is part of a series of increases planned for the year.

This 2% increase is an average figure; individual pay raises will vary based on the employee’s geographic location, meaning some may see slightly higher or lower adjustments.

Additionally, military personnel received a 4.5% pay increase through the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. Earlier in the year, federal workers experienced an average raise of 5.2%, marking the largest increase in four decades.

The Office of Personnel Management advised Federal News Network that the salary increase “acknowledges the commitment and effort of the federal workforce to the American public and aims to enhance the government’s ability to attract and maintain a qualified workforce while also taking into account the budget constraints faced by federal agencies in fiscal 2025.”
