Missing Teen Brothers from Northern California After Duck Hunting Incident

Search efforts are ongoing in northern California for two teenage brothers who have not been located since their duck hunting adventure over a week ago.

According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Andruw Cornett, 19, and his younger brother Wesley Cornett, 17, were duck hunting on Dec. 14 at Thermalito Afterbay, near Lake Oroville, approximately 70 miles north of Sacramento.

Andruw called for help around 8:30 AM to report that Wesley’s kayak had capsized, and mentioned seeing his brother swimming in the water north of the overturned kayak.

He then attempted to rescue his brother, informing the authorities that neither of them were wearing life jackets. That was the last known contact anyone had with the two boys.

Since their disappearance, multiple agencies have been searching for the brothers on both land and water. Authorities have recovered some of the boys’ clothing and personal belongings during the extended search.

On Monday, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office shared an update on Facebook stating that they had “exhausted efforts with divers and sonar technology” and would be transitioning to a “continuous limited search” as they entered the 10th day of searching.

The next phase of the search will incorporate “surface search techniques,” which will involve aircraft, drones, boats, vehicles along the shore, and K9 teams.”

Mother Describes ‘Freak Accident’ Involving her Handsome Sons

April Clark, the boys’ mother, described their situation as a “freak accident” that leaves her family struggling to comprehend the events, as mentioned in an online fundraiser.

Clark stated, “In my eyes, Andruw is a hero. I’m reaching out for assistance. I travel 45 miles every day to search for my boys, and some family members are staying overnight at the site.”

She also mentioned that the sheriff’s office recently informed her that the situation had evolved into a “search and recovery,” meaning she is now preparing to lay her two sons to rest.

“Writing this is incredibly difficult since I’m shattered into many pieces. If you can, please consider making a donation to help our family find and honor my beautiful young boys. Any support will be eternally appreciated,” Clark wrote. “We are grateful for all the prayers and help, we couldn’t have arrived this far without the love we have received, and we thank you deeply.”
