A U.S. judge announced on Monday that the trial for the individual accused in the second assassination attempt against President-elect Donald Trump will be postponed until September 2025, as per a court directive.

Ryan Routh’s legal team requested a delay from the originally set trial date of February 10 due to the extensive amount of evidence involved in the case.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, based in Florida, accepted the request for a delay but found the defense’s suggestion to push the trial back to December 2025 “too much.” She set a jury trial to begin on September 8, 2025.

At 58 years old, Routh faces five federal charges, including attempts to assassinate a significant presidential candidate. He allegedly positioned himself with a firearm near a Trump-owned golf course in Florida during September, intending to shoot Trump amid his presidential campaign.

Routh has entered a plea of not guilty.

Judge Cannon, who is managing this case, is the same judge who dealt with the now-dropped criminal case involving Trump related to mishandling classified documents from his previous term.
