10 Hurt in Mass Shooting Outside Queens Nightclub on New Year’s Day, NYPD Reports

On New Year’s Day, ten individuals were injured in a mass shooting in New York City when a group of men began shooting at a crowd outside a nightclub in Queens, as per local police reports.

The nightclub in question is known as Amazura, according to reports from ABC7, Fox5, and other news sources.

The NYPD responded to the scene on 144th Place at 11:18 p.m. on Thursday after receiving numerous 911 calls regarding the shooting, informed NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera during a press briefing. Rivera clarified that while the incident was not categorized as a terrorist act, an investigation is underway to determine if it is linked to gang activity.

All injured victims have been reported to have non-life-threatening wounds, Rivera stated.

“We have a zero-tolerance policy for these reckless shootings and intolerable acts of violence on our streets,” Rivera expressed during a quick media conference at the location, as reported by the NYPD on X. “Those accountable for this heinous act will be found and brought to justice.”

Shooting Aimed at Crowd Outside Private Gathering

The incident unfolded outside an event where around 90 guests were inside the venue for a private gathering. Roughly another 15 individuals were waiting outside for entry when three or four male suspects fired into the crowd, Rivera shared with the media.

The assailants escaped heading west on 91st Avenue in a light-colored sedan that had out-of-state license plates, according to Rivera.

Authorities believe that over 30 shots were fired at the crowd, although Rivera noted that detectives are still assessing ballistics evidence to provide an exact count.

Among those injured, there were six females and four males, all aged between 16 and 20. The victims received medical attention at local hospitals and are expected to recover, Rivera confirmed.
