Just days into the new year, 2025 has already witnessed a significant celebrity breakup.

Tennis champion Naomi Osaka shared on her Instagram story Monday that she has ended her relationship with rapper Cordae, who has been her partner for several years. Though her message was brief, it emphasized that the split was friendly and did not specify when it happened.

“Hey everyone, I just wanted to share that Cordae and I are no longer together,” wrote the four-time Grand Slam holder, ending her note with a red heart emoji. “There’s no bad blood between us; he is a wonderful person and an amazing dad.”

The couple started dating in 2019 and have a daughter named Shai, who is now one year old. Cordae, a hip-hop artist from North Carolina, has often been spotted supporting Osaka at her tennis matches. He first gained fame with the rap group YBN.

Osaka is a prominent figure in tennis, having won seven singles championships and is anticipated to achieve even more victories following her return from maternity leave last year.

Her relationship with Cordae is part of a long tradition of romances between sports stars and celebrities, akin to couples like Gabriel Union and Dwyane Wade or Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

“I’m truly grateful our paths crossed, as my daughter is my greatest blessing, and I’ve grown so much through our time together,” Osaka shared in her breakup announcement.

In a 2023 interview with InStyle, Osaka indicated that co-parenting with Cordae has been smooth.

“We established a really solid foundation,” she told the publication. “I think it might be because he’s so easygoing, but we genuinely respect each other’s views. If we disagree, we discuss it. Ultimately, we both want the best for Shai.”
